Feature

★This book argues that the core predicament of modern individuals is not "unhappiness" in the traditional sense, but rather a deep-seated "dissatisfaction" constructed and imposed by a technological and hyper-individualistic society. This insight transcends superficial emotional analysis, offering a fresh and more explanatory framework—from philosophical and social dimensions—for understanding the widespread anxiety and sense of alienation prevalent today.
★Leveraging her dual strengths as a philosopher and a writer, the author proposes an innovative path of "new awakening" through literature and art. The book aims to guide readers to use literature as a bridge to break through individual isolation, perceive the world anew, and forge genuine and meaningful spiritual connections with others.

Description

Silvia Bardelás argues that the great problem for modern human beings is not unhappiness but the dissatisfaction foisted upon us by the thoroughly technological and individualistic twenty-first-century society. In this magnificent essay, fruit of intimacy and experience, and from a new philosophical perspective, Bardelás sets out in pursuit of knowledge that is not only metaphysical or ethical but also political, thus making it possible to break with the individual-society dichotomy. This new awareness entails a change in the notion of identity, a way of perceiving ourselves and the world which, thanks to art and literature, allows us to transcend today’s isolated individualism and come into contact with the inner lives of others. As Bernat Castany points out in his Foreword, this bold, essential work “endows philosophy with the best of literature or, in other words, the ability to embody ideas in tangible people and situations, which then opens the doors to their inner worlds.”
