Author
Margarita Simonyan is the Editor-in-Chief of the Russia Today media group and RT TV channel.Born on April 6, 1980, in Krasnodar, she graduated from Kuban State University. She began her journalistic career at the Krasnodar TV and Radio Company, covering combat operations in Chechnya in 1999. In 2001, as a special correspondent for VGTRK in Rostov-on-Don, she was on the ground in the combat zone in Abkhazia, and in September 2004, she covered the events in Beslan. In April 2005, Margarita Simonyan was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Russia Today (RT) TV channel. Since December 31, 2013, she has also served as Editor-in-Chief of the International Information Agency Russia Today. Simonyan has been the recipient of numerous national Russian journalistic awards and has been honored with state decorations of the Russian Federation.
