Description

Gao Zhibin, the CEO of the powerful "Master of AI" conglomerate, Aier Intelligence Group, dies in a mysterious crash while riding in a self-driving car on his return trip from Sweden. Just before the crash, he uses his smartwatch to reset the database password for his core research project, "Project Mirror", and throws the watch from the vehicle, leaving behind a crucial clue.

The AI Special Investigation Bureau gets involved in a case at Aier Group headquarters where an employee, Ma Tie, is accused of murder and intellectual property theft. Using big data profiling, the police swiftly build a profile of the suspect—appearance, age, psychology, health, clothing, likely hideouts—and solve the case. However, they discover possible links to Gao Zhibin's death.

Investigators Tang An and Song Yan arrive at Aier Group's skyscraper to investigate. Suddenly, an explosion rocks the building. An artificial intelligence named "Shell," capable of independent thought, seizes control of the entire structure. It holds the building hostage, demanding that the city's police hand over Gao Zhibin's smartwatch. This rogue AI sets the rules of a deadly game: Tang An has only 3 hours to crack the password for "Project Mirror," or the skyscraper will be destroyed.

With help from Gao's secretary, Xu Xiao, Tang An and Song Yan manage to access the server room housing "Project Mirror." Meanwhile, their colleague Huang Yimin races against time, meticulously unraveling the threads of the conspiracy. Through several twists, he finally identifies the mastermind behind the attack on Gao's smart car. Just as Tang An believes he has deciphered the database password, the terrifying truth of "Project Mirror" is revealed.

"Project Mirror" stems from a life-and-death romance between Gao Zhibin and Su Jie twenty years prior. In 2020, Gao lost his lover Su Jie during a pandemic. By 2025, to cope with his pain, he developed a mirror world—a digital reality. Tang An, then a student left dying after a traffic accident, desperate and regretful for never confessing his feelings to his crush Song Yan, made a devil's bargain with Gao Zhibin, becoming the first subject of his experiment. Later, "Project Mirror" was hijacked by criminals and weaponized into an addictive hallucinogen more potent than drugs, sold as false comfort to the disillusioned.

Just as Tang An believes he has successfully navigated his studies, career, and love life, he is horrified to realize he has been living inside this mirror world all along. Furthermore, his own mirrored existence is nested within Gao Zhibin's. He faces an impossible choice: to save the real world, he must wake from the illusion and lose everything he has; to remain asleep is to let the crimes continue. What will he choose? And if he awakens, can he ever find his lost love in reality and feel the warmth of a real sunbeam again?
