Review

"Fate is gentler than I imagined. So is the seal."
— Reader Yi Xia

"Thank you, little seal, for the spiritual massage for urban worker drones (deep bow). All the tiny, gentle kindnesses in the seal's world are perhaps the things and moods that each of us has always cherished in our hearts but are too lazy to tidy up. Even if we occasionally forget to listen to the voice of the 'little seal' inside us, we can still be easily satisfied and moved by life's little certainties."
— Reader 'A Villainous Face with a Maiden's Heart'

"This book is the embodiment of healing. Seeing the seal fills my heart with joy."
— Reader Cai Yaoyao Doesn't Take Medicine

Feature

★ A Warm Milestone and Critically Acclaimed Work Spanning a Decade!
Since the birth of the first seal in 2013, this character has accompanied readers for a full decade. On Dangdang, China's largest online book retailer (often referred to as the "Chinese Amazon"), it has built a solid reader base. It was also rated as an "Annual Picture Book/Comic" on Douban (a platform similar to Goodreads). Readers have called it "the embodiment of healing" and explicitly stated they would "give 100 points to the seal that accompanied me through difficult times," proving its lasting emotional resonance.

★ A Creator with International Vision and Top Magazine Experience.
The author, Wang XX, was awarded the Benetton scholarship for advanced studies in Italy and worked as an illustrator for the famous international Italian magazine COLORS. This experience allows her artistic expression to blend Eastern philosophy with a visual language understandable to a global audience.

★ A Psychological Theme That Hits the Global Zeitgeist!
The core of this book is not a complex adventure story but a simple yet profound life attitude—"taking a good rest is serious business." With a humorous and tender touch, the book, through characters like the seal and little octopus, invites readers to practice "self-acceptance", responding to the anxiety, fatigue, and self-criticism commonly faced by modern people.

★ An Adorable IP with Established Cross-Media Recognition!
The little seal has long transcended the book pages to become an active IP. The author founded the brand "YesSealLife" around it and has held a physical exhibition titled You Need a Bao Bao (a play on words meaning both 'leopard' and a term of endearment for the seal). This is a character universe with derivative potential, whose image is highly amiable and possesses great development potential!

Description

Hi, I'm the seal!
I live with Little Octopus and Little Manatee. We love eating, sleeping, and traveling. We can love others, and we also get scared.
"Taking a good rest is serious business" is my life philosophy.

In the seal's world, all creatures are simple. They sometimes earn a little money, sometimes are quite poor, but never care about worldly rules. They feel lonely, they feel sad, but most of the time, they use their little bit of love to try their best to feel the greatest kindness around them.

Does this seem a bit far from reality? Actually, no.
Each of us has a little seal in our heart worth cherishing. Maybe you haven't listened to its voice for too long.
How about you go pick it up right now, press your ear against its fuzzy chest. Maybe you'll hear it murmur:
It's okay... to like me, too.

Author

Wang XX | Cartoonist, Creator of the "Seal Universe"

Wang XX is a Chinese cartoonist and illustrator working and living in Shanghai. She is better known as a steadfast "seal enthusiast" and the creator of this warm IP.

She graduated in 2011 from the Nanjing University of the Arts, one of China's top art academies. After graduation, she was awarded the Benetton scholarship for her exceptional talent to pursue advanced art studies in Italy. From 2012 to 2014, she worked as a full-time illustrator for the globally influential magazine COLORS in Treviso, Italy, an experience that greatly broadened her international artistic perspective. Subsequently, she lived in London for a time before finally settling in Shanghai in 2015 to begin her career as a full-time creator.

Since drawing the first seal in July 2013, Wang XX has continued to create around this character for over a decade. The core aim of her work is to explore profound themes like self-acceptance, mental health, women's growth, and daily life philosophy through lighthearted and humorous comics. She is deeply influenced by British artist David Shrigley and American cartoonist Allie Brosh, excelling at conveying delicate emotions and philosophical thoughts through simple lines and witty dialogue.

In addition to publishing Chinese bestsellers like I Choose to Rest Well, I Always Feel Something Is Not Bad, and Taking a Good Rest Is Serious Business, her work has also been published in English (Sealf-Care for Everyone). In 2017, she co-founded the brand "YesSealLife" with friends, successfully developing the "seal" from a paper character into a cultural symbol encompassing exhibitions and merchandise. Wang XX defines herself as "someone who can make a living just by doing what she likes," and the seal she draws is the cutest embodiment of this philosophy of living freely.
