Description

Many people with hearing loss or deafness struggle with feelings of loneliness and exhaustion. They are also at greater risk of depression, burnout, and even dementia later in life. In the Netherlands, around 1.5 million people live with hearing loss, and in Flanders about 800,000. Yet they are often overlooked, partly due to a lack of knowledge and understanding.

Geeske van Voorthuijsen was born hard of hearing. She only found true recognition when she began making her hearing loss - and especially its impact on her daily life - visible through illustrations. In a vulnerable and honest way, she portrays the pain, struggles, and sometimes impossibilities faced by people with hearing loss, as well as the unexpected advantages. With this book, she not only breaks the stigma around deafness and hearing impairment, but also shows how small adjustments can make the world a much more inclusive place.
