Feature
★The inspiration for Tsunami comes from the author Sév's experience as a journalist, offering readers an in-depth look behind the scenes of war-zone journalism and revealing the realities of this little-known profession. Sév witnessed the arduous efforts of large non-governmental organizations firsthand and presents another perspective on the disaster. As a woman, her actions in such an extreme environment demonstrate resourcefulness and courage.
★The comic's simple lines and somewhat rough style vividly capture the intense emotions of the journalist on the scene. Both dramatic moments and those filled with camaraderie are authentically portrayed.
★Like the biographical works of journalists such as Michèle Ouimet and Jean-François Lépine, this book is presented in the less conventional form of a comic, appealing to a diverse readership. Journalists will surely be curious to read this graphic novel, as they will recognize the major challenges of their profession within it, while the general public will be eager to gain an in-depth understanding of a profession they usually know so little about.
Description
A story that juxtaposes the distress of a community with that of a rookie reporter, confronted with existential questions about her role, the pressure to perform, loneliness and competition between colleagues which, fortunately, doesn’t prevent camaraderie.
This docu-comic is inspired by the author’s experiences as a journalist sent to cover the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. After witnessing the efforts of major NGOs, she offers readers a different view of the catastrophe.
The drawings, with their raw lines, and the comic’s slightly cobbledtogether style, reimagine a tragedy of epic proportions, capturing and conveying the intensity of the drama and the acts of solidarity that followed.
