Review

Bernd Pfarr's name cannot be written boldly enough among the representatives of German humour.
– Ralf König

Quite simply the most beautiful comic series that Germany has known before Volker Reiche's Strizz. Alex the Raven demonstrates tolerance without wagging a finger. It is the tolerance of happiness, as storytelling conveys in its best moments. –Andreas Platthaus, – – ----- Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Bernd Pfarr's pictures are so beautiful, you'd want to live in them.
– Wiglaf Droste, taz

Feature

★The author won Max und Moritz Award for Best German-Language Comic Artist 1998!
★In this series of funny one-page animal stories written between 1988 and 2004 by the much-loved author Bernd Pfarr, Alex the Raven and his three friends use charm and humour to combat the everyday pitfalls we are all familiar with, such as cryptic instructions booklets, dripping taps, and pets that drive you mad by refusing to eat the same food they ate the day before.
★Collected in a new edition to mark the 20th anniversary of Bernd Pfarr’s death, these lively, stylish, and quirky stories are a classic that will entertain children and their parents alike.

Description

Life presents many challenges: the poetry competition at the Müller soap shop, for example. The urgent dentist appointment of the savvy dentist-refuser Professor Alfonso. The extra-large spring cleaning, or even a vacation with that irritating bundle of nerves Thadäus (gulp!). But Alex finds a solution for every, no matter how hopeless, predicament. Even if it's not necessarily the right one... 60 new Alex stories about artificial intelligence ("Dietmar, the mechanical capacity in all areas"), movie blockbusters ("Cowboys hate cold coffee"), and fashion statements ("This season, you wear sombreros!"). Famous for his character Sondermann and his cartoons in ZEIT magazine, Bernd Pfarr created Alex the Raven, a no less quirky yet lovable Duckburg for comic book fans young and old.

Author

Bernd Pfarr (1958-2004) was a German painter and cartoonist. The cartoon character Sondermann, which he created for the satirical magazine Titanic, is now considered a classic, and his painted cartoons for the Zeit-Magazin established him as one of the German masters of humour. His outstanding graphic, imaginative, and literary skills have left an indelible mark on German comics.
