Description

On the sunny island of Vagia, the summer holidays of a group of children are made unusual by a mysterious guest from France. She is a psychiatrist's assistant who has come to the island with a special mission - to uncover the secret of a German patient who suffered from amnesia as a result of a landmine explosion during the Second World War. This German patient, Hans, had left some scattered clues on the island of Vagia, and the children decide to band together to find the meaning behind these clues. Their adventures are full of curiosity and challenges, and bring them closer together.

That is, until one day the children visit the Chaldean family in Vagia, where they learn that Hans had lived in the house during the war. The Chaldeans reveal a shocking secret: Hans has stolen their gold sovereign. This news ignites the children's curiosity and they decide to embark on a journey to find the lost treasure. The adventure takes the children back to those turbulent times as they uncover not only Hans' past, but also the hidden history of the island of Vagia.

During this unforgettable adventure, the children learn about courage, friendship and perseverance. They not only find the lost treasure, but more importantly, the time they spent together and the deep feelings they have for each other.

Author

Georges Sari
Born in Athens on 22 August 1923 to a French mother and a Greek father. During the difficult years of the German occupation of Greece, she began her artistic initiation at the theatre school of Dimitris Rontiris. Sari later travelled to Paris, the capital of the arts, where she continued to take acting classes at Charles Dullin's school.

In 1962, having gained a great deal of experience, Sari returned to Greece and continued to act in theatre and film. Her equally impressive literary career began in 1969 with The Treasure of the Mist, which started as a game with children and their friends, but accidentally launched her writing career and became a huge success in the publishing world. Since then, Sari has dedicated herself to writing for children and young adults, writing in a variety of genres including novels, middle grade fiction, children's theatre and stories for young children.

Her works are not only popular in Greece, but have crossed linguistic boundaries and her fourteen translations of French novels have won the hearts of international readers. Highly recognised for her literary achievements, Sari has been reprinted many times and has won several literary awards, including the National Prize for Children's Literature and the Greek Children's Book Circle Award in 1994 and again in 1999, and was nominated for the International Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1988. She died on 9 June 2012 at the age of 87 years.
