Description

The snow can hide everything, even the escape of two young and innocent children from the threat of Nazism, which is getting stronger and stronger.
Angelo and Lidia are two Jewish cousins. Despite they are only eleven and seven years old, they know the reason why they had to leave school. They know the meaning of some difficult terms such as racial laws and deportation. And, above all, they know that the scary threat of Nazism is getting closer, which their families were hiding from them.
One day, the two cousins wake up to find their families gone: they have abandoned them to protect them from the Nazi threat. Being by themselves, they change their names and escape to the mountains of northern Italy and try to hide there, experiencing the difficulties and splendour of the wilderness, encircled by ice and snow.
With a pen as light as snow, Sofia Gallo paints on paper breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable characters, revolutionary women, brave men and indelible friendships. She talks about the injustices of war, but also the sense of powerlessness and the difficult of growing up.
A touching story that proves the great courage of two young protagonists and it’s a hymn dedicated to those who are different and marginalised.

Author

SOFIA GALLO has been a teacher for several years and since 1992 she’s been a full-time writer. She published novels for children and young readers, and she is the winner of the literary awards Leggimontagna. An author who has always dealt with topics close to the youngsters' experiences, together with the topics of intercultural and current events.
