Description

Alexei Tolstoy strives to show young readers the beauty of the richness of folk tales and art. As early as 1910, the author published his essay on fairy tales as a separate book. Originally, the "Magpie Tales" collection consisted of forty-one fairy tales, each containing the bright and expressive language of Russian folklore. Until 1923, when A. Tolstoy republished his early works, that the stories were divided into two parts: "The Mermaid Tale" with a magical mythological plot, and the "Magpie Tale" about animals.
There are 22 short fairy tales about animals in this book: there is a greedy magpie, a thief dreams of a fox, a cat has no tail but teeth, a wise rooster, a pig artist's story, a gelding that got a wolf's tail, a fairy tale of a scary camel, and more.
