Description
Considered one of the great filmmakers of German expressionism, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau (1888-1931) developed his career initially in his native country and, later, in Hollywood. Although much of his filmography has disappeared, however, the films that have survived or that have been recovered today offer us authentic masterpieces unknown to the general public such as "The Earth in Flames" (1922) or "Phantom" (1922). . Among his unfortunately lost works, his film "The Four Devils" (1928) stands out, to which we will dedicate a special analysis in this book. He was also the author of such well-known films as "Nosferatu, a symphony of horror" (1922), a mythical film and prototype of vampire cinema; of "The Last" (1924), an intimate and social feature film with expressionist touches, and of "Amanecer" (1927), a moral fable that anticipates "film noir". Died prematurely in a car accident in the United States, at the dawn of sound cinema, Murnau's films continue to be a fundamental reference in the history of world cinema.
