Description

Kai-Uwe Merz is now presenting the third part of his series on Berlin's cultural history in the 20th century. In short chapters, "Wüste Berlin" describes the topics of parties, city politics, literature, theatre, music, painting, media, cabaret, universities and city architecture. We come across the Ulbricht group, Ernst Reuter, the almost forgotten writer Theodor Plievier, Gottfried Benn and Johannes R. Becher, Wilhelm Furtwangler and the master builder Hermann Henselmann. They all tried to create something new on the ruins of Berlin - which often wasn't all that new.
