Description

Smoking chimneys, people in coat aprons and blue men in the capital of the GDR beat the industrial heart of the workers' and peasants' state. The photographer Günter Krawutschke knew the world of the many small and large industrial enterprises of East Berlin and the GDR like no other. His photographs convey unembellished and sometimes intimate insights into this long-disappeared world: they document emotional moments and strong characters against the sober background of the hard working day. Many of the more than 170 impressive photographs were never published during the GDR era.
