In order to get over the breakup of a relationship, writer Wang Meng-lan accepts the commission to write the biography of the legendary painter Liu Guang. Wang finds herself attracted to Chen who looks lonely and pensive but that also reminds her of the nightmare of her father drowning himself in the sea when she was little.
