Description
There was an audition for school choir. This means that all children will have to sing in front of a teacher and each other in order to get in the choir. Anna really loved to sing and she was a good singer too, but she dreaded to sing in front of other people. That is why she decided to give up on her dream.
One night, she could not fall asleep thinking about her troubles. She was nervous and scratched her ear and suddenly something strange happened. A small, funny, little man fell right out of her ear. He introduced himself as mister Feareater and revealed that he tried to get into her head because his job is to eat children’s fears. Since her head was fool of delicious fears, he invited himself to this feast, but Anna’s head was so full of fears he could not even get in.
Mister Feareater invited Anna to visit his city called Fearville and a special museum called – Fearseum. That was the place where Anna met other people’s fears and learned how to overcome her own. The secret was to watch the fear on the side, not to give it a lot of attention, understand where it came from and take time to process it.
Mister Feareater did not eat all Anna’s fears. Instead, he taught her how to find strength, value and faith within herself to overcome insecurities.
Anna and mister Feareater is a story about self-confidence as a very important social and emotional competency and skill in children’s development. Children need to learn about healthy self-confidence and self-worth in a way that they can find the competence, skills, strengths, faith and values within to overcome different challenges in life. Through Anna’s experience, children will learn to overcome their insecurities and fears, realistically see and estimate their capabilities and competence to resolve a problem or fear and actively try to accomplish what they want.
