‘Fairytale About the War’ depicts the tragedy of Hiroshima from a point of view of a child, from the naive childish fascination with militarism to the terrible destruction of the city on August 6, 1945.

A simple, minimalistic in words narrative is accompanied by noble illustrations by Piotr Fąfrowicz. This is a book for children and adults with an extremely important and current message - that every war is bad.

Finishing the story, Joanna Rudniańska writes that War changed her name. Now she’s called Peace.

Description

War is the name of a little Japanese girl. She had a dad, a mother, and a younger brother. Father loved and coddled his daughter very much and he was proud of his son, who was to become a brave soldier once. War envied her brother very much. She loved her dad, the Emperor and military parades. War’s mother did not like the Emperor or the military parades, though she did not tell anyone. When father sailed overseas to fight and win, she told the girl to save food, take care of her brother and work in the garden. War became sad and she missed her dad very much... She dreamed that when he came back, he would have almost as many medals on his uniform as the Emperor...

One day an airplane came over the city and dropped the bomb. This city is Hiroshima, and the bomb is Little Boy.
