Description
Irish of descent, Scottish by birth and British by conviction, Conan Doyle was a sportsman and adventurer, and moved through fields as different as antagonistic. From literature to journalism, wrote inflammatory articles for various British newspapers, helped to extend the practice of skiing in Switzerland, made inroads into politics and embraced with fervor the spiritism after the death of his son in the Great War. He also embarked on dangerous maritime expeditions, risked his life in front of three bloody conflicts and shared experiences with the most notable names of his time, such as Harry Houdini, H. G. Wells, Bram Stoker or Oscar Wilde. He was also an advocate of impossible causes and collaborated in the resolution of some of the most notorious crimes of his time with the sole purpose of ridding an innocent prisoner of an inevitable conviction.
The purpose of this biography, richly illustrated and read as a novel, is to make a detailed journey through his life and his literary work: his early writings, his elaborate novels and stories, his controversial spiritualist treatises and his relationship of love and hate with Sherlock Holmes, a character that catapulted him to fame, but that made him more shadow than he would have liked. All this accompanied by funny anecdotes, curiosities of the time and facets of his life exposed for the first time in our language; all through a deep and pleasant immersion in the most seductive years of contemporary history.
