Review

The heart-breaking story about the young author Julien who fulfills his dead wife’s last wish to write her one letter for each year of her short life is touching and magical until the very last page.
– ELLE

What a charming, magical story! I was bewitched! I really enjoyed the pitch, but this is one of those rare times when it’s even better in execution.
– Anna Boatman, Little Brown, UK

If "up lit" (uplifting fiction) is the new book trend according to The Guardian, then Nicolas Barreau is definitely one of the most interesting international voices of this genre. Or, rather, he set the trend with his novels where kindness and charming characters are wisely combined with romance and the French joie de vivre.
LOVE LETTERS FROM MONTMARTRE is an ode to love, Paris and empathy. A love letter to readers and to whoever believes in the healing power of the written word.
– Ricciarda Barbieri, Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Editore, Italy

With LOVE LETTERS FROM MONTMARTRE Barreau demonstrates his unique storytelling skills and also his soul seeking ability. A delightful treat as well as a grand cru! I simply fell in love.
– Heloise d’Ormesson, EHO, France

Everyone loves him. His novels are so enchanting. Reading Barreau is like having me-time with your best friend.
– Nina George, Germany, author of "The little Paris book shop"

Description

Julien Azouly is a French writer of romantic comedies. When his dearly beloved wife Helen dies at the early age of 33, leaving him alone with their son Arthur, he is so devastated that he would like to put an end to his own life. But Helen was clever. She made her husband promise that he would write her 33 letters, one for each year of her life. Six months after the funeral, Julian reluctantly writes his first letter to Helen, and he finds the writing of these letters strangely comforting.

Julien places his letters in the secret compartment of an angel statue he had commissioned for Helen’s grave, in the legendary Montmartre cemetery in Paris, where she is buried.

But one day, Julien finds that his letters have vanished. Has the love of his life decided to give him a sign from above?

What Julien does not know is that someone is watching him, an unsuspecting person who cannot resist the temptation to draw him back into the world of the living.
