Description
If literature is part of an evolutionary strategy, could it consciously orientate this evolution? And how can it do it today, when the environmental crises is getting more urgent? Which tools does it offer? These questions hold the challenge and the sense of the new edition of the book Ecologia Letteraria. Inspired by the theoretical framework of ecocriticism, a model of interpretation born in the ‘90s in the United States, Serenella Iovino suggests an interpretation of literary works as a way to “educate to recognise” today’s ecological strains. The result is an invitation to think of literature as a survival strategy that could help us overcoming “evolutionally” the ecological crisis challenge.

Serenella Iovino is one of the most trusted voices of the international ecocritics. She teaches Comparative Literature at the University of Torino. She was head of the European Association for the Study of Literature, Culture and Environment.
