Review

«There’s the Rome for tourists, and then there’s the Rome for those who live there – the real Rome. And the best way to get to know it is to read detective Ponzetti’s investigations».
                                ——Marco Malvaldi

«Rome is to Ponzetti what Paris is to Maigret and New York is to Nero Wolfe.
After Montalbano’s Sicily, also Rome has found its hero».
                                ——Antonia Arslan

«Ponzetti walks: through the city, into the night, among the people that chase life without ever catching it. He walks, that’s what he does».
                                ——Maurizio De Giovanni

Description

Critics and readers alike are celebrating detective Ottavio Ponzetti the new rising star of Italian noir. His stories take place in Rome, one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Ponzetti loves to walk the streets and alleys of his city, which he knows like the back of his hand, and to reveal their dark secrets and hidden gems. His adventures span across the entire city: from the multi-ethnic Esquilino neighbourhood, near the central station, to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and the popular drinking holes of the Monti district, from the posh restaurants of Parioli to the dark alleys surrounding Campo de’ Fiori. Rome is as much a protagonist of the novels as Ponzetti himself.
In the seven episodes of the series published so far, Ponzetti deals with a wide range of themes and characters somewhat reminiscent of Maigret. Ponzetti’s strength consists in his ability to understand the human soul, in his intelligence and culture, in his ability to grasp the nuances of reality.

As in the neorealist film tradition, Ponzetti embraces the tragedy and suffering of all men, illuminating life’s most intimate mysteries.
