Feature

★ Author Hida Yukitoshi is Representative Director of Taiki Kensetsu Co., Ltd., a construction company founded in 2005 in Sakai, Osaka. This is his first book.
★ “Mental simulation” is not escapism. It means repeatedly running hypothetical experiences in your mind, based on your own knowledge and experience, to pre-experience reality. The author compares it to “air swings” in baseball practice—swinging without thought only builds muscle; but if you simulate “if this pitch comes, I swing like this” while swinging, the grip pressure and swing path become internalized.
★ The core method: not simply imagining the future, but concretely picturing situations that could occur in reality and repeatedly simulating the best action within them. The higher the precision of your mental simulation, the higher the quality of judgment and action when it counts. Do this intentionally, and the success rate of anything rises sharply.
★ This book is for anyone who gets nervous before speeches, negotiations, interviews, or competitions. It doesn’t tell you to “calm down.” It lets you win once in your head first. When you’ve already simulated every possible scenario in your mind, your body and judgment naturally follow when the real moment comes.

Description

Generally, “delusion” is viewed negatively—groundless assumptions, escapism, pathological fantasy. Most people hold this negative impression.

The author’s definition: the “delusion” in the general sense and the “mental simulation power” in this book are completely different things. “Mental simulation power” is a method of repeatedly conducting hypothetical experiences in your own mind, based on data accumulated through your own experience and knowledge, to pre-experience reality in advance. The author considers it a highly useful ability for work and daily life.

Take “air swings” in baseball practice as an example. Swinging a bat without thinking can build muscle and stamina. But technique that works in real games cannot be acquired that way alone.

“If this pitch comes, I swing like this.” “If it’s this timing, I shift my weight like that.” By reproducing concrete scenes in your mind while swinging, you accumulate experience closer to real games. As a result, the subtle grip pressure, the swing path, and other details become internalized, and the movements needed in an actual at-bat can be reproduced unconsciously.

The mental simulation power the author advocates is the same. What matters is not simply imagining the future, but concretely picturing situations that could occur in reality and repeatedly simulating the best action within them. The higher the precision of mental simulation, the higher the quality of judgment and action when it counts. If you can do this intentionally, the success rate of anything rises sharply.

This book introduces, based on the author’s own actual experiences, the mindset and practical methods for training mental simulation power, translating it into action, and ultimately connecting it to results.
