Publisher‘s Review

“Excellent employees win on that one point of sense and proportion!” The core secret to being more recognized while doing the same work.

When you first enter the workplace, everyone harbors similar hopes: dressing smartly, working professionally, gaining recognition, leaving on time, and living the ideal life. But reality is not so easy. Working diligently, making zero mistakes, and completing tasks on time—even then, recognition remains elusive. Being praised as “someone who is reliable” can feel nearly impossible.

The author, Kim Kyoung-mi, believes that the root cause is not a lack of effort or ability, but a lack of “sense and proportion” (proper boundaries and situational awareness).

This sense is not an unattainable gift. The author, with over twenty years of experience in the public sector, breaks it down into five dimensions: Observation, Preparation, Expression, Work, and Reporting—distilling practical tips. A pen carried at all times, a note in your calendar, a perfectly timed message—any of these can become your decisive edge at work.

For those struggling with “Why is my hard work not seen?” this book is a practical textbook. Apply the techniques—accessible to all, regardless of seniority—and feel the difference immediately.

A collection of work skills you’ve been too embarrassed to ask about but absolutely need to master! The magic formula that makes work life easier.

Do you frequently change meeting plans at the last minute? Are your reports constantly rejected? Do you endlessly reorganize materials and waste time searching for files? If your documents still carry labels like “FINAL・REALLY FINAL,” you need to read this book. It is packed with practical tips to stop ineffective toil and optimize your workflow.

Part One explains how tiny gaps create huge distances in the workplace, highlighting the importance of this sense of proportion. Part Two details immediately usable tips for Observation, Preparation, Expression, and Work—covering progress updates, communication scripts, data organization, and filing. Part Three teaches reporting techniques categorized by boss type. The same report requires completely different approaches depending on your boss. Identify whether your boss is emotionally driven, relationship-oriented, or the trickier types—avoidant, hands-off—and precisely break through communication barriers.

Description

Want to work smartly, cleanly, and with savvy? A veteran with 23 years of workplace experience breaks down all the rules for surviving and thriving in the office.

Companies want “experienced newcomers.” This sounds like a fantasy, but it is reality. South Korea’s workplaces have long suffered from labor shortages; regardless of seniority, companies need people who can take initiative and work efficiently. Newcomers feel it‘s unfair—no one taught them this. But society is practical; a company is not a school and will not patiently hand-hold.

In response to this reality, the new book The One Essential Trick for Workplace Success has been written, aiming to be a reliable senior colleague for workplace newcomers. For new employees who want to do solid work but have no one to ask, and for those whose experience has grown but remain stuck in place, Kim Kyoung-mi, a 23-year veteran, shares her experience generously.

The author has long worked in government and public institutions, with a widely recognized ability, earning multiple ministerial and institutional commendations. She now fully shares the workplace emotional intelligence and sense of proportion she has developed through years of practice.

She emphasizes: workplace savvy is not an inborn talent, but an acquired ability—essentially a work skill that anyone can develop.

This book avoids vague, hard-to-apply theories and is filled with immediately usable tips: a sentence to close a meeting, ready-made office communication scripts, adjusting your report to your boss’s type. Try slightly adjusting your reporting time today, changing your communication phrasing tomorrow—these small changes will accumulate, and you will eventually join the ranks of excellent employees.

Author

Kim Kyoung-mi

Public official / civil servant. She began her career in 2004 on the front lines of social welfare, working for public institutions and central government ministries for over 20 years. She rose from a contract social worker to a government section chief, earning ministerial commendations and multiple institutional awards based on outstanding performance.

When she first entered society, she also thought about quitting because work was difficult, but she did not run away. She observed and learned from competent colleagues within the organization, grasped work wisdom, and combined these insights with her own experience to develop her own set of work techniques.

This book collects the high-EQ work secrets she has accumulated over more than twenty years. She hopes to be a caring senior colleague to all those who want to do their jobs well and gain recognition.
