Description

60 Years of the Porsche 911 Targa: A Journey Through Time

The 911 Targa combines many things in a very special way: the joy of open-top driving, a rigid body, and increased safety despite the lack of a roof, and not least a clear design statement.

With unrivalled everyday usability, high driving dynamics, and the distinctive "Targa bar," this body style quickly won many friends and has been part of the lineup for all 911 generations to date. This book brings together all generations of the 911 Targa, first presented in 1965, in stunning images, while developers and designers explain the background of the "safety cabriolet" and its significance for the Porsche brand.

·Complete history of the Porsche 911 Targa with exclusive archive material
·Fascinating background through interviews and stories from the developers
·Perfect gift for Porsche fans on the 60th anniversary of its IAA presentation

The Targa was – like many successful things – initially a kind of stopgap solution: building a cabriolet in the early 1960s required stiffening the 911's body, which initially proved difficult. Additionally, a ban on fully open cars was looming in the USA. The Porsche developers solved both problems by adding a roll bar, while the designers gave it an elegant finish of brushed stainless steel. The Targa concept underwent various evolutions over the decades: the initially folding rear window became fixed, the bar was later also available in black, for several generations the bar was omitted entirely and became a large glass roof, until it finally celebrated its acclaimed return with the 991 model range. Then as now, the circle of enthusiasts is dedicated and convinced that they are driving the best and most beautiful of all 911s.
