Description

This work was composed in the author's later years. Its pages are primarily devoted to the flowers, bamboos, trees, and vegetables grown in his personal garden, alongside their cultivation methods. The narrative is enriched with literary and historical anecdotes, occasionally touching upon notable flora from other regions.
The book possesses both profound cultural substance and the fresh, lively atmosphere of everyday life. The author demonstrates literary ingenuity through an exceptionally clear structure, employing broad classifications and subheadings to document the garden's plants in a systematic and orderly fashion.
The main text consists of three volumes: the first and second volumes record flowers, while the third covers four categories—bamboos & trees, melons & fruits, teas & leafy greens, and various vegetables. These are followed by two summary volumes discussing garden construction, bonsai crafting, and related topics. The first three volumes emphasize connections to literature and history, radiating scholarly breadth and refinement. The final two volumes concentrate on practical methods for daily use, presented with concise simplicity. While the content of each part has its emphasis, the author's philosophical, optimistic, and humorous attitude towards life runs consistently throughout.
