Description

Kazimir Malevich, the great Russian painter, was one of the core figures of the Russian Avant-Garde, founder of Suprematism, as well as an art theorist, philosopher, and educator. He dedicated his entire life to exploring and establishing a unique painting movement that embodies his philosophical theories and perceptions of the universe and art. His artistic ideas went through several developmental stages: Impressionism — Neo-Primitivism — Cubo-Futurism — Suprematism. Among these, Suprematism was founded personally by Kazimir Malevich, and his most famous work “Black Square,” which remains a subject of debate to this day, became his artistic manifesto. By 1920, a group of loyal students had gathered around Kazimir Malevich, forming the UNOVIS (Defenders of the New Art) group, who shared the same artistic and philosophical views as their teacher.

This book collects Malevich’s essays from different periods, as well as two of his major works — “Suprematism. The World as Non-Objectivity, or Eternal Peace” and “From the Book on Non-Objectivity” — which collectively reflect his philosophical thoughts and creative principles. In Kazimir Malevich’s view, the core of new art lies in the transition to “new pictorial realism, non-objective creation,” where artists should not copy nature but create their own artistic worlds.
