Description

Song Shiyu served in the palace for ten years, rising from the lowliest rough labor maid to a court-appointed female official in front of the emperor. Yet, at the age of twenty-five, she voluntarily requested to leave the palace.
The Emperor was puzzled: “You have a boundless future ahead; why abandon it midway?”
Song Shiyu replied: “I have a great vengeance yet to fulfill.”
The Emperor laughed and said: “Who is your enemy? I will avenge you.”

Song Shiyu came from a merchant family. In her youth, a family servant conspired to seize the family property, resulting in the death of both parents. She entered the palace as a slave and gradually rose to become a court-appointed female official. A decade later, she retired and left the court, tracking down her enemy—who had since become the locally renowned merchant Deng Yukun. Drawing on her past experiences, Song Shiyu meticulously laid out a plan, step by step, to reclaim her family’s assets, cornering her opponent until she ultimately exonerated her parents and achieved vengeance. Throughout this process, Song Shiyu captured the heart of Emperor Tang Huaifeng, and the two developed a “thrilling and sweet” romantic relationship.
