Description
Throughout Chinese history, countless eminent families have risen, yet very few maintained prosperity beyond a century. But one family has persisted through a thousand years of turmoil, continuing its legacy from the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period to the present day. This is the Qian family.
This clan boasts an “all-star lineup”: 1 Nobel Laureate, 2 diplomats, 3 scientists, 4 masters of Chinese classical studies, and 18 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. Moreover, statistics show that among contemporary globally renowned figures with the surname Qian, there are over 100 at the level of Chinese Academy of Sciences academicians or higher, spread across more than 50 countries. It is no exaggeration to call them an “extraordinary dynasty.”
The origin of all this traces back to Qian Liu, King of Wuyue. With exceptional governance and military prowess, he stabilized Wuyue as the most peaceful and prosperous region during the tumultuous Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. He twice wrote admonitions for his family, which were compiled into a final version on his deathbed. These precepts were later refined by descendants into the millennium-enduring “Qian Family Precepts.”
This book centers on the Qian family’s thousand-year heritage, highlighting outstanding figures from different eras and their stories of wisdom in self-cultivation, career-building, and social conduct. Presented in manga style, it vividly brings these classic precepts to life through engaging visuals and concise language, helping children understand principles of conduct, establish correct values, and cultivate good habits and virtues for lifelong benefit.
