Description

This is an introductory book for elementary school children and older who wish to begin learning mahjong. It explains the fundamentals through manga, illustrations, and quizzes.
Although mahjong involves many elements to learn, this book focuses on “the absolute basics” to help beginners become comfortable with the game—understanding the rules, tile types, winning hands, and gameplay. The goal is to “remember the rules and play independently.” Centered on essential knowledge, the book progresses alongside readers through explanations by its characters.
Each chapter includes quizzes to review and reinforce what has been learned. Through repeated reading and practice, readers gradually acquire the knowledge needed to play.
The book also features fun mahjong facts perfect for break-time reading. These interesting tidbits will appeal even to adults!
Supervised by professional mahjong player Hisato Sasaki, known by his alias Demon King and active in the M-League. From Sasaki—a pro recognized for his aggressive style and competitive strength—readers can learn strategies and respect for opponents.
This book is suitable for elementary to middle school students and their families, seniors revisiting mahjong or playing with grandchildren, and beginners transitioning from mobile mahjong games to the real tabletop experience. It supports enjoyable learning and skill development in various settings.
