Review

"In this collection, supernatural forces manifest in many different forms. Yet these tales of blood and ancient grudges evoke empathy rather than mere fear, largely due to the poignant voices of beings that transcend the physical realm and the raw sincerity with which characters engage with them."

Description

When the gods turn a deaf ear to their prayers, five women embrace the supernatural to forge their own destiny in this chilling collection of Korean horror stories.

Author

An ordinary citizen, translator, and novelist.
Fuelled by a profound affection for Hong Kong cinema, Chinese dramas, and Taiwanese singers, she pursued studies in Chinese culture and mass communication at Sogang University to nurture her passion. Her academic journey continued at the same graduate school, where she specialized in Chinese plays.
Yi-sak Kim embarked on her literary career after receiving an excellence award at the Golden Bough’s 1st Urban Fantasy Contest. Kim holds a keen interest in history, women, mysterious events, and monstrous creatures, aiming to weave narratives that restore erased voices. She contributed “Aegwi” (Sorrowful Ghost) to the women’s narrative anthology Gamgyeojin Nun Araee (Beneath Veiled Eyes) and “Dasi Sseuneun Janghanga” (Rewriting Changhenge, the Song of Everlasting Regret) to the collection of old short tales titled Yawonhasigok (A Wolf Howling Beneath Night Clouds). Kim’s first full-length novel, Hanseongbu, Dal Balgeun Bame (Hanseongbu on a Moonlit Night), was selected for a Hallyu (Korean wave) content support project hosted by Seoul Business Agency.
