Description
This work was written and illustrated by the renowned British author and illustrator John Patience, taking us on a tour of the Greenmeadow Valley hidden somewhere in the British countryside at the beginning of the 20th century. The animals in this story are also good friends and neighbors of the readers. They will go through some small adventures and encounter some minor accidents together. Everyone will offer a helping hand, and there will always be a happy or interesting ending in the end. If you are reading this series for the first time, they will soon make you feel at home.
The map on the endpapers of the work can also help children find their way around the village and appears in every book of the series. Over the years, children have always loved this map and enjoyed pointing out where their favorite characters live and where the stories take place.
These stories about animals are healthy, warm, humorous and innovative, with an enduring charm. In the 1980s and 1990s, a generation that read these stories as children still enjoy sharing them with their own children today; parents who read these books with their children back then are now enjoying them with their grandchildren.
Author
John Patience is a renowned British children's illustrator and author. His lifelong passion and dream have been to write stories and draw illustrations for children, and he has been working tirelessly towards this goal.
Born in Lancashire, northwest England in 1949, John studied graphic design at Harris College in 1964. After graduation, he began working as a book cover designer in London for publishers, but this did not stop him from pursuing his true dream. Through persistent efforts, John published his first children's storybook at the age of 30. With his profound artistic skills and literary talent, he has created over 100 original stories and retold classic fairy tales such as "Andersen's Fairy Tales" and "Grimm's Fairy Tales". John combines childlike and witty text with exquisite illustrations for each story, interpreting the fairy tales in a unique way that has deeply captured the attention of young readers and opened a door to their hearts.
So far, John's storybooks have been translated into multiple languages and published in many countries including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia. His best-selling series is the "Green Dream Valley" fairy tale picture books, which have been widely popular since their publication and have maintained their influence for many years. As a result, John has received letters and greetings from young fans all over the world. In 2019, John served as a member of the expert jury for the "New Children's Books" competition organized by the Russian publisher Rosman, one of the largest competitions in the field of children's and young adult literature in Russia.
Now, John lives in the countryside of France with his wife Jane, their two children, and grandchildren, enjoying the happiness of family and the leisurely life of the countryside. Besides continuing his beloved painting work, John has also developed a passion for digital sculpture and finds it very enjoyable. His digital sculpture creations are mostly of the "fantasy" type, such as fairies, monsters, dragons, and other mythical creatures. In his leisure time, John likes to tend to his garden. In his eyes, every plant and every living creature there makes him feel as if he is in a beautiful fairy tale world...
