★A cancer diagnosis always brings a huge shock to those who receive it. Isabelle Roy experienced this firsthand in 2019. To prepare for the future, she bought many books, but none of them met her wish: a book that was both easy to understand and comforting, and a way to connect with people who had gone through similar experiences. Therefore, after her recovery, she decided to write the book she needed to read at that time. To achieve this goal, she collected the personal experiences of cancer patients and presented them in the form of 100 illustrated short stories.
★These little stories, some humorous, some touching, and some comforting, describe specific moments during the medical treatment process and the emotions they evoke, opening up space for dialogue, emotional support, and mutual empathy. This indispensable book accompanies patients - as well as their loved ones - providing an understanding of the entire process, while bringing peace, a sense of belonging, and most importantly, hope.

Description

Isabelle Roy's battle with cancer made her acutely aware of the helplessness many people feel when facing a cancer diagnosis. Through this book and her work as a volunteer companion in the oncology ward, she hopes to give back the support she received during and after her treatment. She has previously published twelve novels for teenagers.
The number of people diagnosed with cancer worldwide is increasing every year. Where can they turn for comfort after the initial shock of diagnosis fades?

Isabelle Roy received bad news at the age of 34: she had uterine cancer, with a survival rate of 32%. She sought books that could help her cope with the diagnosis but found nothing that resonated with her experience. This illustrated collection of anonymous stories from cancer survivors aims to fill that gap.

The book features 100 short, touching and inspiring personal accounts, conveying the various emotions experienced by cancer patients and their loved ones during this difficult battle through words and images. The structure of the book echoes the care pathway of cancer patients: diagnosis, treatment, complications and follow-up care. Through this book, the author celebrates the experiences of survivors and offers comfort, hope and a sense of belonging to all those affected by cancer.

Author

Isabelle Roy initially wrote for teenagers. Her first series, "The Phoenix Elves" was set in a fantasy world. Her second series, "Hackers" delved into the mysterious world of computer hackers. Through "Burned" she introduced readers to another equally fascinating world - that of firefighters. In "Glory" the author led readers into the vibrant world of Quebec hip-hop. In 2024, Isabelle Roy published "Strawberry Full Moon" an interesting and touching coming-of-age trilogy set in the picturesque Charlevoix region.
