Description

Aspiring astronauts, star gazing astrophysicists, and even toddlers pointing at the moon will now have the right stuff for exploring our galaxy. With rhymes for younger children and their accompanying fact-filled expository test for older readers, syndicated "Yak's Corner" columnists Janis Campbell and Cathy Collison shuttle us through an out of this world alphabet as seen through the windshield of a space ship. Each page answers galactic questions like: What planet is 300 times heavier than Earth? Why is space the ultimate place to study? Which planet is closest to the sun and which one is the farthest? Who said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"?

Author

Janis Campbell and Cathy Collison have been friends and writing partners for 10 years. They are interested in sharing information with young people on every topic under the sun, from stars in the news to stars in the sky. They met at the Detroit Free Press, where they write and edit "Yak's Corner," a magazine style section for young readers.

Janis has interviewed astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison, as well as pop star Lance Bass, who would love to be an astronaut. Janis and Cathy have collaborated on several books, including three guides for teachers, a cookbook and Authors by Request, a book profiling 12 hot authors for young readers. G is for Galaxy: An Out of the World Alphabet is their first book for Sleeping Bear Press.
