Thanks to the small great ideas of many people, we have evolved and it has not been an easy path: first we had to discover how to make fire; then someone thought it would be easier to transport things on wheels; privileged minds created writing and skilful hands, paper; later there was someone who built a fabulous invention so that knowledge could reach everyone: the printing press. Thanks to all this, today you have this book in your hands.
Technological progress was and is unstoppable: the steam engine, electricity, radio, cinema, telephone and television, internet... But evolution is also shown in scientific progress with Copernicus' Solar System, Newton's gravity, Einstein's relativity or DNA, and in social progress, with the abolition of slavery, the feminist struggle or the Green Revolution of the ecologist movement.
We have come a long way and we are sure to go even further.
But in order to move forward we must always first be aware of (and grateful for) all the ‘Decisive events in history’ that we have inherited.
