Description

"Yes, so what if it's a gambling table. If it's a gambling table where 99 out of 100 people can make money, even if one person loses, it should be acceptable, right? I just need to be one of those 99 people." — Excerpt from the text.

"There is no other way to make money in this country except through real estate. Especially apartments." — Excerpt from the text.

"Caged Bird's Home" vividly depicts the 21st-century Korean real estate market, with irregularities such as single-family home replacement, price difference investment, and full-rent fraud. It tells the stories of people who are trapped and lose themselves due to their intense desire for real estate. The story is set in an old city called "Transcendence City," in an old apartment building that is about to be rebuilt. This place has witnessed ghostly disturbances, suicide incidents, and animal abuse, among other horrific events. An ordinary housewife, Eun-joo, in order to protect her home's value, starts investigating these terrifying events with a kind of obsession.

Eun-joo moves to the suburbs of Transcendence City with her children before her husband is assigned to work in Seoul. However, she is troubled daily by the cramped living space and tight financial situation. When she learns that her old friend Hui-kyung has made a lot of money through real estate investment, Eun-joo also starts to borrow money to buy several properties, thus getting caught up in the whirlpool of the real estate market.

Unfortunately, the apartment building she purchased first experienced a suicide incident, followed by ghostly disturbances. Despite this, everyone chose to remain silent for fear that the housing prices would drop. Finally, when a terrible murder occurs, in order to protect the housing prices, Eun-joo decides to personally get involved in solving the case. When "living" becomes "buying a house," home turns into hell. Whether Eun-joo can escape from the hell called Korean real estate remains an open question.
