Description

The three stories in Pocket Money is to write about a modern Māori family and the joy of sibling relationships. It is important to work together as a family but have fun along the way.

Author

My name is Munro Te Whata and I’m a Māori/Niuean illustrator based in South Auckland. I’m very honoured to be able to illustrate
stories from Joy Cowley. She is such an awesome writer that I, like many other kids, grew up reading in school. I loved the lessons in Pocket Money, and I can’t wait to share this book with my kids.
A lot of the illustrations are inspired by what I see around me, like the kitchen, which is based on my kitchen, and I also don’t look too different to Dad. I loved drawing Sonny and his modern-day mullet the most.
