Description
Consisted of 9 short stories and 1 novella, this book mainly talks about women, discussing their living conditions and dilemmas in parent-child relationships, gender relationships and the social gaze. It shows a cross-section of different lives through the experience of 10 ordinary people. The author uses her sharp insights as a novelist, and her accurate descriptions to point out the deep pain in life that is easy to ignore. The text is delicate but not trivial. The stories are ordinary but straight to the heart. The narrative is fluent but restrained as well. These stories could delve into the life and spiritual world of modern people, demonstrating the delicate relationships among people and between humans and society.
Author
Xu Xiaoya was born in 1987 in Nanning, Guangxi. She has a maste's degree in literature from Xiamen University and is a doctoral student at the Faculty of Humanities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She is a member of the Chinese Writers' Association and a participant of the 34th Senior Seminar for Young and Middle-aged Writers of Lu Xun Literature Institute. She is a novelist and a critic. She was awarded the first prize in the National New Concept Composition Competition. Her works have been published in Southern Cultural Forum, Modern Literary Magazine, Zhongshan Magazine, Guangxi Literature Monthly, Youth Literature, Changjiang Literature & Art, etc. Some of her works have been reprinted in Novel Monthly, Selected Novels, and Beijing Literature (Novella Monthly). She has published collections of her own novels, Purity, and The Maiden and the Titanic.
