Description

A brother and sister, Karik (the brother) and Valka (the sister), shrink to the size of a grain of sand after drinking a magical potion they find in their neighbor Professor Enotov's apartment. Everything around them—grass, raindrops, mushrooms, insects—becomes tens or even hundreds of times larger than they are. The children ride on dragonflies, traveling in a fantastical world filled with plants and insects that has its own rules unknown to humans. In this perilous micro-world, the children go through a series of thrilling adventures.

While the children are missing, their worried parents and the police are searching for them. Fortunately, the clever Professor Ivan Hermogenovich Enotov understands everything and immediately drinks the magic potion to shrink himself and sets off to find the children. On their way home, Karik and Valka experience more wonderful adventures in the world of plants and animals.

Author

【Author】Yan Leopoldovich Lary (1900-1977)**
A distinguished children's author, science fiction writer, and biologist. He has worked in various occupations throughout his life, from a waiter to a fish factory manager, participated in World War I and the Civil War, and witnessed the October Revolution. As a science fiction writer, he made his debut with the novella "Windows to the Future" and later wrote the utopian novel "The Land of Happiness," depicting a communist future. The critics issued devastating reviews, and Lary's works were no longer published, and his novels were withdrawn from libraries. It took a long time for his works to return to the readers' view. His early science fiction works did not bring the author great fame, but he left an immortal name in the history of children's literature with his outstanding children's book "Journey into the World of Insects" (also known as "The Extraordinary Adventures of Karik and Valka").

【Illustrator】Natalia Demidova (1960)
A renowned artist, illustrator, and animator. Natalia Demidova received her primary and secondary art education at the Kazan Art School and studied at the Art Department of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (specializing in animation film art direction) from 1980 to 1986. She also served as the art director for the animated film "Hamlet," which won an Emmy Award.
Since 2000, Natalia Demidova has mainly been engaged in book illustration. Her works are well-known not only in Russia but also abroad. She pursues a more freehand painting style and has devoted herself to the field of book illustration. Her first batch of projects, including Chekhov's "Kashtanka," Andersen's "The Little Match Girl," and Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper," achieved great success in Russia, Japan, South Korea, Italy, and other places!
