Description

When you eat flavoursome strawberries or stuff your face with fries, you're probably not wondering where they came from and how they ended up on your plate. Meanwhile, where potatoes and other vegetables grew are of great importance to you, because all the plants you eat get their nourishment from the ground. For years, the soil formed of disintegrating rocks, rotting plants and animal remains. From what the rivers brought and what the winds blew. It gives us food, clothing and even shelter. We stamp on it, scrub it off our hands when it gets under our nails, sometimes we treat it like ordinary muck, and other times we treat it with care. But the ground we have beneath our feet is merely the crust of the Earth. If we wanted to reach the centre, we would have to travel over 6 thousand kilometres, face molten rock and a temperature of up to 6,000°C. The Earth is, on the one hand, our planet on which we live, and on the other, the soil that feeds us and the ground on which we walk.
