(sexual revolution, “Operation match” the first computer dating service founded in 1965, the growing popularity of online dating services), technology (algorithms), and dating sites and apps; Tinder, as an eponym for all dating apps, influences love, family, and relationships; digital trail and privacy; the culture of loneliness and polyamory, the future of online dating, and how they make us more choosy about romantic partner)

Practice: the dating glossary, developing an online dating profile, aspects of online self-representation, online etiquette; types of online daters, the dangers of dating apps, setting dating goals and sticking with them, emotional safety, toxic people checklist, gender stereotypes (e.g. a man should send the first message; гендерный стереотипы (a swimming suit photo does not mean a low social responsibility woman, etc.); meeting an online date for the first time, etc.

Author

Olga Solovyeva is a media researcher, lecturer at Higher School of Economics. She defended a master’s thesis on Tinder and online dating services.

Dmitry Tkalenko is the graduate of the bachelor’s program in Advertising and Publilc relations, co-author of the research on “Cross-cultural communication in the knowledgebased era", author of the novel about love online "Magazin ludey».
