Description

“And yet it moves!” said Galileo Galilei, stunning everyone! Earth spins, even though it has no wheels. And it’s not the only thing in the world that does so—there are many more… perhaps more than you can think of at the moment. So delve into this book!

Just about anyone knows that scooter or motorcycle wheels spin. Stars and planets? Well, okay, some might know about those too. But did you know that dogs spin while chasing their tails when bored, or that sunflowers turn towards the sun each morning? Even we, people, spin although we have no idea we’re doing it. And can you twirl spaghetti onto a fork or spin a cowboy’s lasso? How about some pizza dough? What else spins and rolls around you?

Author

Although Šárka Fenyková graduated in the Design of Gardens and Landscapes from Mendel University in Brno, her professional life is in radio and theatre. As well as authoring radio plays for children and adults, she has written several short stories for radio. Since 2004 she has worked for Czech Radio as an editor and presenter. In addition to her creative work, she enjoys trees, mountains, coffee and – above all else – the company of her family.

Jana Sedláčková is a keen author of children’s books and also a PhD student of Education at Masaryk University. For interest’s sake she also graduated from the School of Textile Design and Management in Brno (SPŠ a VOŠ textilní v Brně), which first brought her into contact with B4U Publishing and inspired her to write Fashion Story (2014), a book for all those who wish to know about dress and fashions through history, right up to the present day. At the moment she is most often found at her ancient computer, writing the latest chapter of her thrilling history of warriors. Either that or surrounded by materials for her thesis on children’s reading. You can read her earlier student works – The Fairy Tale as Ritual in Families with Preschool Children (2014) and Working with Fairy Tales at Nursery School (2011), the latter the winner of the G.A. Lindner Prize – on the internet. At university she helps out as an editor of the journal Studia Paedagogica. She sings in the Blahoslav Hajnc Choir, and at Christmas she loves to decorate gingerbread. She is fond of fairy tales, and she’s convinced that people who don’t read them are still looking for the right one!

Štěpánka Sekaninová spent her childhood near Kolín, in the Polabí lowlands region. Although she is a Bohemian at heart, fate carried her to the heart of Moravia. She is a graduate in Czech and History from the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. While still a student, she started work at Czech Television in Brno, where as a reporter she travelled about the South Moravia region and got to know every part of it. She later switched from reporting to the production of light entertainment and children’s programmes for the Brno studio.
Štěpánka loves books and has always longed to write, so when her life’s journey presented her with the opportunity to work as a literary editor for Albatros Media, she accepted it with alacrity.
And so she writes, surrounded by beautiful books, realizing a dream she’s had since childhood...
