Description

When we were young, we often saw woodpeckers pecking at trees again and again. Have you ever wondered why woodpeckers could grip the trunk firmly without falling? Why wouldn’t woodpeckers faint with repeated pecks? Would they suffer from “cerebral concussion”?
We all know the idiom “A cuckoo takes over the nest of a magpie.”, but did you ever think about why birds such as turtledoves and cuckoos would occupy magpies’ nests “shamelessly”?
You must have seen swallows nesting under the eaves in spring and flying low in the rain. But have you ever seen a flock of swallows crossing the sea? Have you ever seen them rain down on the decks of passing ships as they were so tired?
You must have heard melodious songs of skylarks, but do you know they also sing with a local accent? Do you know why the great poet Shelley called the skylarks “a cloud of fire” in the blue sky?

There’s no hurry. The Songs of Country Birds will tell you the answers and take you into a different nature. This is a rich and warm book of nature, which will let you find something that interests you as well as beautiful and moving folk stories. A magical and romantic journey into nature is about to begin…
