Feature

★The publishing director was a guest at the Bundestag and could personally present this book to the Chancellor. And the FAS, the most prestigious Sunday newspapers, praised this book.

Description

Fifteen years after reunification, Angela Merkel became the first woman and the first East German to move into the Federal Chancellery. "Germany changed me and Germany changed all of us," she said at the time about this period in which she decided against academia and in favour of politics. Another 16 years later, Angela Merkel has mastered four terms in office with numerous challenges and has shaped and changed Germany. She is now retiring as chancellor, but she will find other ways to continue standing up for democracy.

At the end of her time as chancellor, on the German Unity Day, the 3rd October 2021, Angela Merkel for the first spoke about the difficulties people in and from eastern Germany face in the all-German context. More personally than ever before, she pointed the way to a future for Germany for the last time during her term in office in which each individual's past is not seen as ballast but as a gift, thus closing the circle of her authoritative speeches.

"A country in which everyone is always learning anew. A country in which the experience of upheavals in family biographies, in which the effort but also the happiness that it can mean to have to start anew or to be allowed to do so, is recognized as an experience that gives us confidence and strength together."

- Speech on German Unity Day, 3rd October 2021 “What, then, is my country?”
- Speech on the peak of the refugee crisis, Berlin, 15th August 2015, “We can do it!”
- Speech at the Knesset, 18th March 2008, “We must not forget”
