Review

As I read The Short Trunks’ Journey for the first time, what immediately came to my mind were various frames in the film My Neighbour Totoro directed by the Japanese movie master Hayao Miyazaki, such as mountains, farmland, streams and banana leaves, except for that the running kids were substituted with the elephant family who were somewhat adorkable. This is a book full of love not only between elephants but also between human beings and elephants. Then, what else can be warmer and happier than sitting and reading this book with your children? — A Chinese reader

In the book, protection of the herd of elephants by our forest firefighters is revealed vividly. It reminds me of our elephant tracking life over 100 days when we performed 24-hour monitoring on the location of the herd. At the end of the book, when I read that the elephants crossed the main stream of Yuanjiang River and returned south on August 8, I could not help crying. — Yang Xiangyu, Leader of Wild Asian Elephants Search and Monitoring Task Team, Yunnan Forest Fire Brigade

Feature

★ The English version of this book has been authorized. Some sample chapters in English are available for review.
★ It’s an ecological picture book about nature and protection, telling not only elephant-elephant stories but also human-elephant stories.

It turns out that baby elephants could stand in just a few minutes and walk in a few hours after birth;
It turns out that they love to roll in the mire to protect themselves from sunshine and insect bites and to get rid of bacteria and parasites on their body;
It turns out that their long noses could not only lift hundreds of jin (=1/2 kilograms) of heavy weights, but also pick up tiny peanut kernels…
It’s incredible!

We could also learn from this book that like human beings, the bulky wild elephants are also affectionate towards their children and vice versa. Definitely, there are also “Elephant Trackers” who work hard around the clock just for the elephant family’s safe journey home.

This is a book full of love not only between elephants but also between human beings and elephants. Then, what else can be warmer and happier than sitting and reading this book with your children?

Description

You are welcome to join the “Elephant Tour Group”! Let’s go together!
Hello, everybody! I am Yun, a baby elephant from the “Short Trunk Family”! We the “Short Trunk Family” are setting off! We set out from Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province, and went all the way north, touring half of Yunnan for thousands of kilometers. We went over mountains and jungles and through villages and cities all the way while “Elephant Protectors” provided us with sufficient food and recorded the wonderful moments of our mud bath, eating corns and sleeping. During the journey, we discovered the world while being spotted!
