Description
Who are we? What do we feel? We wouldn’t find the answers to those questions in a world of black and white — but rather in a world with a great variety of available tones and possibilities (what a great thing!).
Therefore, we invite everyone to celebrate diversity, freedom and respect for everyone, with this book by Joana Estrela. A book that speaks about gender identity in a simple way, with humour and sensibility.
Suitable for every age.
Author
Born in Penafiel in 1990, Joana Estrela started drawing family portraits at an early age, writing funny subtitles to go along with them. One of her classic birthday gifts was a list of things-we-say-when-we-are-angry, applying the concept to different family members. She once drew a portrait for her mother, depicting all the times her mother was scolding her father, like “Don’t fold the carpet in our room!” or “You started to eat before you cut the meat for your daughters!”.Her methods haven’t changed a lot since: what motivates her to start a book is still the amusement that comes with it.
She graduated from Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto (Oporto’s Fine Arts University) with a degree in Communication Design (2012).
In 2014, Plana Editor published her first book: Propaganda. In 2016, Planeta Tangerina published Mana, the winner of 1st Serpa Internacional Award for Picture Books.
In 2016, Mana received in Amadora BD the award for Best Ilustration of a Picturebook (Portuguese Author).
