Description

This heartwarming tale shows children the concept of natural cycle of life. The story starts when the caterpillar wakes up from a long sleep inside her egg. She is very hungry and needs to find something to eat.
So she embarks on a long journey. In the first book, the caterpillar encounters four doors and each of these doors open up to reveal a different place. The first door our caterpillar meets is the door of a school.
“My dear door, who are you?”
“I am the door of a school, don’t you know?”
“I can’t quite remember what lies behind you.”
“If you are curious, then go inside and see…”
Folded double pages open up and give us a large-scale view of a school. The caterpillar is still very
curious and she tries to discover why the students raise their fingers up like that.
Suddenly, the bell starts ringing and it’s time to go home. As the students leave the class one by one, our caterpillar sees the leaves on the cardigan of a little girl, called Ayşe, and climbs up to eat them. But she discovers with disappointment that the leaves were made of wool, so she is still hungry.
Then we come to the door of a playground. Just as our caterpillar tries to find something to eat, a big brown dog lifts her up and throws her into Ayşe’s bag. Ayşe’s mother comes to the park and tells her daughter it is time to go. Ayşe wants to visit the library before they go home, so our next door is the door of a library. Our poor hungry caterpillar thinks she can eat the pages of the books but discovers that they are not leaves. Then she starts reading the book Ayşe has been reading and gets so caught up in the story that she forgets his hunger.
The last door of the book is the door opening up to a theatre, where they all watch a very funny play. All along the story our caterpillar hides either in the pocket or behind Ayşe, so it is only when they go home that Ayşe sees the caterpillar. She becomes very happy and decides to keep the caterpillar as her pet. She puts a small box and a big leaf for the caterpillar. Finally, our caterpillar is not hungry anymore. She makes a cocoon and happily goes to sleep inside it.
