«Balanzá happens to be part of the elite of Spanish writers of his generation, because the originality and sharpness that he unfolds both in the invention of arguments and in the literary development of them are overwhelming».
Luis Alberto de Cuenca, Abc

Description

Damián Ferrer has turned 50 and is unemployed. She has a teenage daughter and has not yet overcome the trauma of her divorce. He is a typical victim of the latest international financial meltdown: he has been fired of a sudden after having worked for more than twenty years in a marketing company. When he is offered a modest job as a consierge in a building of the center of Valencia, he doesn t think twice. He is willing to accept any stress-free work that will allow him to survive. He no longer aspires to much more. Above all, he does not feel like having any complications.
However, what awaits him is precisely that: complications. And to such extent and of such a nature that they will completely escape his capacity of assimilation. But the fact that will push him to a slide of madness and horror is not given to him directly, but to an unfortunate and unknown woman on the platform of a subway station. This absurd murder which Damian accidentally witness will be the first indication of the definitive truth that he is about to discover: that no caution, no rational principle of prudence can free us entirely from the implacable cruelty of the world.
