In a dying forest infested with swarms of bark beetles, frightened stick creatures called Twigs hide in a cave. A young Twig named Leaf attempts a foolhardy rescue, but instead leads them all into greater danger. In their darkest hour a spirit bear stalks their steps and a terrifying firestorm explodes! JO MARSHALL lives in the Pacific Northwest near glacier-capped volcanoes and lush rainforests. She is concerned about climate change impacting the wildlife and forests in this region, and so her timely, eco literature novels describe this transforming natural world by means of fantastic adventures about impish and courageous stick creatures called Twigs.

Jo was a literacy tutor for elementary school children in Snohomish, Washington for seven years. In the D.C. area from 1999 to 2006 she worked for the Paralyzed Veterans of America and Oceana as a legal assistant to their General Counsels. Jo earned a B.A. in German Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, Europe in 1986. From 1984-1987 she worked as a liaison between the military and international communities in West Berlin.
