Description
If you were to ask Maurice why is he so angry, he could not actually answer your question. This unpleasant feeling would just take him over and feel overwhelming. His head would be confused and something would just make him argue with everybody around him. That is why his friends at school gave him a nickname – Maurice Angerpeace.
One day he thought the boys in his classroom were making fun of him, so this terrible feeling appeared again. He just lost it. This time teacher has had enough of his bad behaviour and have sent Maurice to school library to cool down and think about his actions.
Maurice liked libraries, books and reading so he started to calm down. As he opened his book and notebook, something strange happened. All the letters and numbers, dots and exclamation marks left the paper and started to float around library room and Maurice’s head. Soon, the letters from library books started to come out of pages, fly and float and play all around the space. And as if this wasn’t enough, suddenly a weird creature has shown up out of nowhere and offered Maurice to help him clean up this mess. He introduced himself as mister Angerpeace.
They started to collect the letters and put them back together. This work was hard but very, very calming and meditative. Mister Angerpeace and Maurice Angerpeace were talking and little creature even taught the boy how to calm down in challenging situations. Therefore, Maurice learned it is better to say, “I am ok”, take a deep breath or count to three or ten, than to let this huge anger take him over and ruin his day or friendships. He managed to find peace in anger. He became Maurice in peace.
Maurice Angerpeace is a story about self-control or self-regulation of emotions as a very important social and emotional competency and skill in children’s development. Ability to regulate and control your thoughts, emotions and behaviour in everyday or challenging situations is maybe the most important skill in social development of children. Maurice and mister Angerpeace will teach children how to gain calmness and control over your body and mind in situations of high anxiety and overwhelming unpleasant emotions.
