Description

RHS Spectacular Plants and how to grow them showcases the world’s most bizarre, surprising, weird and wonderful plants, and reveals how many can be easily grown at home!

Aimed at enthralling readers in the 8–12 year old age range, RHS Spectacular Plants and how to grow them reveals an incredible range of plants that truly defy belief: from deadly insect-eating sundews, to sensitive plants with leaves that move rapidly when touched, to flowers that look like tiny dancing people, to a begonia that resembles Darth Vader.

This book reveals how to cultivate many of the world’s most interesting plants, allowing children to grow at home stinky star-fish flowers to startle their parents, or white strawberries and purple potatoes to surprise their friends!

All of the plants included in this book are harmless, and most are easy, fun and enthralling to grow on the windowsill, in the garden or the greenhouse.

RHS Spectacular Plants and how to grow them makes plants and horticulture fun and engaging. This is the must-have book for budding young naturalists!

Author

Stewart is an award winning author of natural history books and the presenter of numerous wildlife documentaries broadcast on the BBC and internationally. He spent 8 years climbing 300 mountains across the world (some previously unexplored) to study and photograph carnivorous plants to complete a series of 25 books. During his travels, he discovered and named 35 new species and varieties of carnivorous plants, including two of the largest pitcher plants ever discovered, one of which, named after Sir David Attenborough, was declared the most important new species of 2009 by an American University. For his most recent TV series, he visited all of the UK Overseas Territories scattered across all Seven Seas. He directed and presented the resulting 4-part wildlife series titled Britain’s Treasure Islands and wrote the accompanying book by the same name. Stewart organised and successfully completed a previous Kickstarter project to make educational films from the unused footage from the Britain’s Treasure Islands TV series. He founded ArkofLife.net to safeguard species extinct in the wild and has raised and donated more than £30,000 for conservation. He has received international awards for his conservation work including, most recently, the IUCN David Given Award for Excellence in Plant Conservation.
