Description

“Venice is dying. The ongoing exodus of inhabitants is in stark contrast with the image that is shown to the rest of the world is akin to the cover of an advertising brochure and does not reflect the soul of a place that is certainly no Disneyland.During the past four years I have been exploring in depth Venice, my home city, and I took many unusual pictures of it. I have started up a street photography project called: The Invisible City. Through my photographs, I strive to show the true essence and soul of Venice, unseen to those visiting it”. "
The Invisible City" is a book by a citizen of Venice who has photographed "real" moments of life in his city, moments increasingly rare. Venice has now become, above all, a tourist destination far removed from the identity of the city and its citizens, because none of the millions of tourists are interested in seeing and getting to know the life of this city but only the icons of an increasingly careless tourism.
The photographs in this book and the texts collected by the author Federico Povoleri are a successful tool to make known the real daily beauties of life in Venice and are a tool to try to give visibility to his city again.
